A landmark year for all involved in Beat The Streets since its 2018 inception – the year our fundraising total hit HALF A MILLION POUNDS! This huge achievement could not have happened without the hard work, dedication and time donated to the cause by hundreds of staff, volunteers and musicians united behind the cause. The festival once again gave local Nottingham musicians a prominent place on the line-up, and featured notable upcoming artists, including: Blood Wizard, Do Nothing, Evil Scarecrow, jayahadadream, Mollie Ralph & The City Flowers, Riding The Low, ROB.GREEN, Sleep In Motion and The Publics.
Beat The Streets saw huge crowds gather to enjoy a full day of live music, every venue was packed out on Sunday 28 January to enjoy a full day of live music showcasing more than 50 homegrown artists along with special guest Beans on Toast. MPs and Nottingham City councillors were in attendance to experience the festival firsthand, and meet with George Akins, MD, DHP Family and Andrew Redfern, CEO, Framework, to hear about the success of the partnership, and the urgent need for more to be done to tackle the homelessness crisis, and £81,600 was raised for Framework.
Our 2023 event raised £89,500 for Framework after a wonderful event featuring the likes of Ferocious Dog, Lawnmower Deth, Palm Reader, Alt Blk Era, Girlband and many more! This event brought our grand total of fundraising to £400,000 and to mark the milestone our donation for 2023 went directly towards the build of a purpose-built block of accommodation named Akins House after our directors George and Sean Akins.
The run-in to our 2023 was also a special occasion as we were awarded the Community Impact Award at the UK Festival Awards the month before our 5th event.
We’re thrilled to announce that the fourth live edition of Beat The Streets in 2022 raised another £76,000 for Framework Charity to be used to provide housing and specialist support to rough sleepers in and around Nottingham!
Unfortunately Beat The Streets 2021 couldn’t take place due to COVID-19 restrictions, so this year we moved our fundraising efforts online!
We launched an extensive campaign, running from November until the end of January, in aid of Framework Charity! This included taking part in Framework’s own ‘Homeless To Home’ challenge, where we collectively ran over 1000 miles and raised over £10k! We also launched the online version of our much-loved Beat The Streets tombola, a Crowdfunder packed with amazing rewards and experiences and a Silent Auction. We culminated the campaign with a special online stream from Nottingham performer Jerub on our Facebook page.
To mark the third instalment of Beat The Streets, we managed to secure a very special guest to perform on our line up… Nottingham’s very own Jake Bugg! The artist played a momentous solo set to a capacity Rock City, making it a certified ‘were you there?’ music highlight for all those present for many years to come. Other artists on the bill included folk singer and activist Grace Petrie, riotous live Karaoke band Bamalamasingsong and the inspiring local music project Circle Of Light.
Based at the Rock City merch desk, we also had our most impressive fundraising tombola yet! With prizes including VIP tickets, food vouchers and beverage bundles, we sold out all tickets in record time and the proceeds from ticket sales provided a healthy boost to the festival’s fundraising efforts for Framework.
Following the success of the first ever Beat The Streets festival in 2018, we were determined to follow it up with an event that was equally as mighty. To do this we put together a bill bursting with exciting acts featuring the likes of hair-raising rockers Evil Scarecrow, who dominated the Rock City mainstage with their seismic riffs and an even larger moving mechanical robot, the acclaimed hypnotic folk of Keto and even a surprise set from beloved local singer-songwriter Saint Raymond.
Those who were missing their weekly football fix were also catered for, as we welcomed Nottingham Forest footballing legend Stuart Pearce for an intriguing Q and A session!
With the festival helping to raise a huge £75,000 for Framework, the 2019 edition carried on the positive momentum created from the inaugural year of the event. Plus, our friends over at LeftLion declared that “Beat the Streets really is a stroke of genius” in their review of the festival, thanks guys!
2018 marked our first ever festival! We welcomed over eighty artists to play at the inaugural Beat The Streets, and even had some spectacular night time offerings for when the music finished such as; D.I.D. DJs, an electric back-to-back DJ set with Nottingham’s very own Lone and Lukas Wigflex along with a silent disco in Stealth, ensuring that celebrations lasted long into the night.
The event proved to be a huge hit with the music lovers of Nottingham, with the success helping to cement our spot on the calendar for many music lovers in the area. After all, it’s not often you get to hear Sleaford Mods performing to a packed-out Rock City on a Sunday afternoon for charity is it?
